The grand final30 grand final awards: 14 Double Gold, 11 Platinum and 5 Diamonds, chosen from the medal winners

Gold, silver and bronze medals go to every entry that reaches the jury’s required score and standard.

How the awards began

The first bis awards, in 2001, were a solid silver Obelisk and triangular glass awards with a sterling silver medal attached to the front, plated in gold or bronze. The Natural Earth award was first launched in 2004.

How it has evolved

  • 2004–05Grand final places ran from bronze up to platinum within each category, plus an overall winner.
  • 2006Double Gold and an overall winner for each category appear in the listings, under the World Invention Award Obelisk. That year’s awards page lists four main categories, 30 grand finalists and four outright winners.
  • 2007–11The awards pages list five outright winners, with Natural Earth among them. Each section still had two Double Golds and one Platinum.
  • 2011–16British Invention moved to one Double Gold per sub-category. International Invention had three, then two.
  • 2016–19One Double Gold and one Platinum in every section.
  • 2020–nowAs shown above: International Invention returns to two Double Golds per sub-category.
